Gansel’s Bergamot

Dessert pear. Believed to have been raised by Lt. Gen. Gansel in 1768 at Donneland Hall (now Donyland Park), Colchester, possibly from a pip of  Autumn Bergamot. Medium is size. Short and round, with a greenish yellow, dry skin which sometimes has a dull red flush. Flesh is firm and gritty. Can be cooked.
