Queen

Culinary apple. Raised by Mr. Bull in Billericay in 1858, but parentage unknown. A large flat-round shaped apple, also known as ‘Essex Queen’ and was first sold as ‘The Claimant’. Became popular after 1880. Yellow in colour with an orange flush and red broken stripes in varying amounts. Skin turns greasy. Cooks to a pleasant slightly acidic puree.
