Grand Duke

Culinary plum. Raised at Rivers’ Nursery in Sawbridgeworth before 1876 from the variety Automne Compote. Large, oval, blue-black with a chalky bloom. Received RHS Award of Merit in 1880. Flesh is juicy and golden yellow. It is partially self-fertile so will set some fruit by itself. Having another plum tree of the same or adjacent pollination period  will assist cropping.
